Spider-Gwen’s story begins in an alternate universe, Earth-65, where Gwen Stacy was bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. She took the name Spider-Woman and was affectionately called Spider-Gwen by fans. Gwen is a student at Horizon High and friends with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Anya Corazon. She is inspired by her uncle, Ben Parker, who was killed by the same radioactive spider that gave her powers.
Gwen’s first appearance was in Edge of the Spider-Verse comic, where she stops the Lizard from killing her father and begins her journey as a superhero. She soon finds herself face-to-face with a number of classic rogues and villains and takes on the challenge of saving her father from the Rhino.
In an effort to regain her powers, Gwen bonds with a version of the Venom symbiote, but her darkest impulses soon take over. She eventually joins forces with an interdimensional army of spider-heroes to protect their kind from the Inheritors, and participates in the Spider-Verse event.
After taking on a number of villains and saving her father, Gwen finds herself at the top of the NYPD’s Most Wanted list and must evade capture from Frank Castle and other foes. She eventually joins forces with other Spider-Women from alternate dimensions to take down Cindy Moon’s organization S.I.L.K. and defeat the villainous Max Dillon.
Gwen’s story culminates in an epic battle with Matt Murdock, the Kingpin of Earth-65, where she is offered a deal that she can’t refuse. With her newfound power, Gwen continues to protect her city and her universe as Spider-Gwen.
