The Witch-king of Angmar, also known as the Lord of the Nazgûl, was a character from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth legendarium. He was the lord of the nine Ringwraiths, chief servants of Sauron, in the latter’s attempts to rule over Middle-earth. The Witch-king’s past is unknown, though it is speculated that he was once a Numenorean, given his strength and knightly skills in battle.
He was a powerful and feared opponent, rarely defeated in battle, and was a key factor in Sauron’s victory over the forces of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. He was finally killed in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields during the War of the Ring, by the Rohirrim knight and future King Eowyn.

The Witch-king of Angmar was a powerful and feared leader of the kingdom of Angmar, located in the northern parts of Middle-earth. He was a Maiar, one of the Ainur, who had come to Arda in disguise. He was originally called Sauron, and was the lieutenant of Morgoth, both servants of the Valar.
Sauron, who had made himself into the Witch-king, was a powerful adversary, and he was able to manipulate the minds of the people of Middle-earth, forcing them to do his bidding. He sought to gain control over the entire continent, and he was successful in many areas. He was even able to bypass the defenses of Minas Tirith and march right up to the gates of the city.
The Witch-king was eventually defeated by Eowyn, a shield-maiden of Rohan, who stabbed him with a magical blade as he challenged the leader of Gondor. He uttered a curse, however, before he died: “no man can ever defeat me”.
